Jackson's 6th: The Party

Mommy with the birthday boy before he and the crew headed out to see Cars 2!

Since Jackson's birthday fell on Father's Day Sunday this year we decided to move his party to the following weekend. This worked out perfectly since it coincided with the opening weekend of Cars 2 at the theater! Jack chose a handful of buddies to accompany him to the movies (thanks to Jonathan for being the co-swagger wagon chauffeur!) where they each got their own little drink, popcorn and treat. Following the movie the kids came back to our house where I had decorated and set up for the rest of the party. It was a great day! The only sad point was when Eddie's buddy, Tyler, was unable to come because he wasn't feeling very well.

Treat bags filled with mostly sugary treats and temporary tattoos that take months to come off: Check!

Streamers, balloons, and a Cars 2 themed birthday banner: Check!

Soda, chips, and one volcano cake: Check!
(Yep - he requested a volcano cake. For his Cars 2 themed party. You tell me.)

The two little rug-rats I got to play with for the afternoon while the big boys were at the movies!

Norah tried to help me get Beckett's pants back on. Unfortunately, she's going nowhere fast with that end. :)

The party made it safely home and eagerly dived into the pizza and fruit salad I had waiting for them. (Clockwise from left: Norah, Kate, Jack, Arwen, Noah, Riley, Summer and Eddie.)

Presents! Jack received many wonderful and thoughtful gifts from his friends. (Thank you for the cards and gifts mailed to him as well!)

Cake time! I had inserted a small glass jar in the center of the volcano and then had Justin put some water and a chunk of dry ice in it. The effect was awesome! A real, smoking volcano! Jack (and the other kids) LOVED it. Jackson looks like he's being very thoughtful about his wish before blowing out the candles. :)

You can kind of see it smoking in this picture (the white fog). I was busy video taping so I didn't get many good pictures of the actual smoking effect.

Silly boys. Movie theater candy, soda, chips, more candy, etc. Why not throw some chocolate cake with chocolate cream cheese icing into the ring? You only turn six once, right? :)
