Tomorrow is the Big Day when Eddison finally has all of his 'bits and pieces' restored to their proper position! :) You might remember me mentioning a year ago that one particular testicle had decided to play hide-and-seek with us. The official diagnosis: 'Retractable Testicle'. (It sounds like a superpower :). Well, we were told not to worry since it's actually a very common problem and that most cases resolve themselves well before the child's 2nd birthday. Fast forward to last weeks pediatric urologist visit for our one year follow-up... Apparently Eddie's testicle has decided that not only does it not want to stay down where it belongs, but it has moved up quite a bit. Sometime over the past year he developed a small hernia which has allowed the rogue testicle to travel into his abdominal cavity. Thankfully the testicle is still developing and normal. ;) However, left there it would eventually calcify and become like a small cyst in his abdomen which would increase his risk for all sorts of other problems. No thank you.
So while we knew surgery was going to be an eventual option (given more time and no hernia there was still a possibility that the testicle would come down on its own as he grew), his urologist has determined that it's now necessary to perform surgery as soon as possible. It will be a two-part procedure: First the testicle will be located and brought down to the scrotum where a few properly placed stitches will get the job done. Second, the internal hernia will be repaired.
Luckily this is an outpatient surgery so we'll have our little guy home the same day. We are simply requesting prayers that all goes as planned and that he has no adverse reactions to the anesthesia.

oh good luck to little eddie! i hate thinking about him in surgery, but i'm sure everything will go well and that he'll be a trooper! good luck to YOU too, jess! no fun to be a mom watching a child in pain!

well - we've done both of those procedures - just on different kiddos - not 2 in 1.
but the great thing is that Eddie is so young - he won't remember thing. and the younger they are, the easier they come out of anesthesia (believe me - we've done it at 6 months, 18 months and 3 1/2)!
we'll be thinking about and praying for you tomorrow - i'm sure everything will go well - just bring a good magazine!!
