In the almost six years that we've lived here we haven't seen as much snow and ice as we have over the past few days (and yes, church was cancelled over this!). Granted, it's nothing compared to the average day in Utah or Montana, but here it's breaking news! The boys were of course excited to go play in the snow and since there was a good layer of ice underneath it it really would have been fun to go sledding. Alas, where do you buy a sled in a city that gets maybe 1-2 inches of snow a year?!
Unfortunately, the worst of this icy storm was on Saturday (the one day I have to run errands with a wingman!). Not being intimidated by a little bit of ice we ventured out anyway and were amazed that 1. no one was in a ditch, and 2. how few people there were out and about! We've never seen the roads and stores so empty! (It was awesome :).
One of the items on our to-do list for Saturday was to go to Dick's Sporting Goods and try out some of their elliptical machines. I've been pleading for one for years and since my gym membership is finally almost up (Peak Fitness = lame!) and my birthday is next week, Justin was finally on board with my cries. I had researched several online and had pretty much made my decision on a machine that had awesome reviews. While it wasn't a $4000 gym-grade machine, it was apparently one of the best 'home' machines on the market. All that remained was to give it a test drive - which it passed with flying colors. The deal was then completely sealed when we realized it was actually $1200 off the original price for a limited time! (Holy. Cow.) So without further ado, meet our new elliptical machine! (She has yet to be named. :)
It is wired for ifit technology so we can actually have Jillian Michael's (among other trainers) training us while we exercise. I think I can wait on that, but it's a neat feature.
One of my favorite features, though, is the dock for the itouch! Even the machines at Peak didn't have that! Justin spent several hours on Sunday (since church was cancelled) assembling everything and Jackson gave it the first test run. :)
Thank you, Justin! I love you. I did my first workout this morning and am sufficiently both exhausted and invigorated :). Oh - and you can totally count this as my birthday present (even though it's technically for both of us... I'm just sayin' :).

looks great! buying our spin bike a couple years ago was one of the best things we ever did! someday i hope to actually have a room for our home gym instead of having to have it in our family room-- and then i can get an elliptical and a treadmill too, right?
it made me laugh to see jackson trying it out cuz EVERY time we go somewhere that has ellipticals (dick's, sears, etc), k & b have to get on every single one and give them a little test run. i'm always amazed that their short little legs can actually get it going!
sweet elliptical! i want one!
and yes, peak fitness does = lame!!
